March Birchbox thoughts

After seeing it around for a while and growing to be so popular, I couldn't resist giving the Birchbox subscription box a go. I had already tried subscribing to graze but quickly decided that it wasn't for me and unsubscribed. Trying new foods clearly isn't my thing but I am always up for trying new products. I recently bought an Avon bargain bag and I was really excited to use the things that came in it. Even though they weren't things I would of picked up, they were things that I liked. So having a few products sent to me every month to keep me trying new things is a great idea.

It was really nice to come home after work and find a little present waiting for me. I couldn't wait to see what products I had received. I did think about posting about it then but I decided I would give the products a go first and then at the end of the month, tell you all how I got on with each one.

Arrow Boost Color Enhancing Lip Balm
RRP £11

This product came in full size and smells great. I love lipsticks and lip balms, especially lip balms that add a bit of color to your lips. Although I still prefer my Maybelline Baby Lips one, this one is pretty good. Personally I wouldn't go and buy it mainly because I think £11 for a lip balm isn't something I would pay. It adds a bit of color to your lips but I did find that it started flaking half way through the say and I had to apply more, I don't have that problem with my Baby Lips one. Also, I found that the color that it adds to your lips is a bit more orange than what I would prefer.

ModelCo More Brows
RRP £13

This one also came in full size, which isn't that big to be honest. Now, I don't really do anything with my eyebrows... I feel like if I tried to fill them in or whatever it is you do with them, I would end up creating a disaster. So I just don't touch them and for the time being I am happy with that. When I received this I decided one evening before I showered to apply it to one of my eyebrows to see the difference. I did find it easy to apply and also easy to get off after. I noticed the difference but I didn't like it, I went to see if my Mum would notice and she didn't. I had to point it out to her and then she told me that my natural eyebrow looked better. So I took it off and haven't touched it again. I can't really tell you much more than that about this product seen as I don't use brow products!

Spectrum Collections Tapered Powder Brush
RRP £7.99

Another full size product ( I guess they can't really send you half a brush). I had been seeing Spectrum brushes on Twitter for a while, so when I opened up the box and saw this, I was very happy about it. At the moment I am using, and loving, Real Techniques brushes. I found that this one was way too small for me to use it as a powder brush so, even though it's not a highlighting brush, I started to use it to highlight under my eyes. Personally I don't think I would go and buy Spectrum brushes. At least not at the moment. I am loving my Real Techniques brushes and have a few of them, so I think that for the time being I don't really need more brushes. This one was a nice brush though, it was really soft and looks amazing too.

Rituals T'ai Chi Foaming Shower Gel
RRP £8.50

This one was a smaller size than usual. I had never tried a foaming shower gel before, I have a foaming face wash but I soon discovered they are different. This doesn't foam as soon as it comes out of the tube, it takes a few seconds for it to foam up. I realized this when I pressed it down and it squirted out really fast up the wall and a few seconds later turned into foam. It smells great and does leave your skin feeling soft, I use it when I feel like my skin needs a bit of a pamper or is feeling a bit dry.

Polaar Polar Night Cream
RRP £32

This one also came in a smaller size pot. I don't really use night creams seen as I use a product to dry out my skin over night and get rid of spots. So when I saw this one I offered it to my Mum as long as she reviewed it for me.  She tried it a few nights in a row and then told me that she didn't like it. She said it dried out her skin and make her skin look dry and cracked, which is the complete opposite of what it is supposed to do really. So I don't think this would be something she would ever buy.

Number 4TM Lumiere d'hiver Reconstructing Masque
£36

I only got enough of this for one use, well if you really like it I guess you could get two uses out of it but I couldn't be bothered so I just used it all in one go. I must admit, when I tried it I was like "meh, it's okay" because I had bought a hair repair cream the week before and didn't want to admit that maybe this one was good too. I slowly accepted the fact that my hair looked great and felt great too. My frizzy ends are now soft and calm, my hair is so silky and shiny. I love it. I do recommend this one if you have really damaged hair that you are trying to bring back to life, but I wouldn't go and buy it at that price. At least not now my hair is getting healthier, plus I bought a repair cream the other day that I am really happy with and will be sharing it with you guys soon! I have already done a post on the products that I used for my hair when it was recuperating if you want to check that out.

So that is what I thought of March's Birchbox, I loved it even though all of the products weren't for me. It's a great way to try new products and see which one is right for you. I will be sharing my thoughts on Aprils Birchbox at the beginning on May so keep an eye out for that!
Have you tried any of these products? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I've been thinking about signing up to these too. Do you think it's worth it for someone who's not big on beauty products?

    1. Well, it depends really. Do you use creams and things? If not, I don't think it would be worth it. When you sign up to Birchbox it does let you choose what kind of products you would like to receive x

  2. I really enjoyed how honest you were about each product, while still trying to remain balanced. So many reviews of subboxes can either be overly positive, without seeming entirely honest, and others just trash on the box, and it makes you question why they subscribe to it! I was interested in the lipbalm, because I think it's a fun idea that it adjusts its colour based on the pH of your lips!
This was a really insightful review, I loved it!
