My thoughts on Simple skincare

Simple skincare review

I've heard a lot about Simple skincare, it's budget friendly and apparently worth it - So I've been told. I personally have only tried a few of their products and, in my experience, they're a bit hit or miss. So when I was running low on skincare, I thought I'd change up my routine a bit and try out some more Simple skincare products. Mainly because I was on a budget, but also because I wanted to try some more of their stuff out.

Simple skincare review

The last thing I tried from Simple, was their oil cleanser and I can't say I was that impressed with it. It did the job, just not as well as my Caudalie one - Which makes sense I guess, two different price ranges. Simples skincare is said to be made for sensitive skin, so I wasn't too worried about using unknown products on my skin. The only thing that did worry me was the potential breakout I might be met with as none of the products I picked up are really aimed at acne-prone skin, which is something I usually go for.

Simple's Kind To Skin+ Protecting moisturiser

I'm going to start with Simple's Kind To Skin+ Protecting moisturiser, as it's the first one of the products here that I use every day. The main reason I picked this one up is that it was the only one I could find that was in my budget and had a decent amount of SPF in it. A lot of the moisturisers I saw had SPF 15 which didn't seem like enough for me at all. Although I have been told that you're supposed to put SPF creams on anyway, even if your moisturiser has it in already - Does anyone do this?

"A perfect blend of skin-loving ingredients with SPF protection to give dehydrated, tired and dull skin a boost while protecting it from UVA and UVB rays." - Simple

For just £7, this water-based moisturiser is actually alright. I have to admit, when I bought it I was worried it wouldn't do my skin any favours as it's not a mattifying moisturiser, nor is it aimed at acne prone/blemished skin. When I buy day creams, I usually go for ones that will help those kinds of things. When you first apply it, it feels like a rather thick consistency but once it's on your skin and soaked up - Which doesn't take long - you can't even feel it.

The Simple Kind To Skin+ SPF moisturiser soaks into your skin, leaving it feeling fresh and ready for the day. I've nearly finished it now, and it's probably a product I'd pick up again in the future. If you're on a budget and want a basic, SPF daily moisturiser, you can't really go wrong with this one.

Simple Daily Detox Purifying Face Wash

 Simple Detox Purifying face wash

Now, I picked up the Simple Detox Purifying face wash because I wanted something a bit more intense to clean my face with in the evenings. I wanted to be able to give my face a good scrub and then lather it in a good moisturiser so it could soak it all up overnight. I was hoping that by detoxing my skin before bed and getting rid of all the grub from the day, it would clear my pores and leave my skin looking a bit clearer.

"Wondering how to get rid of spots? Simple Daily Skin Detox Purifying Facial Wash is your new secret weapon for fighting clogged pores and oily skin!" - Simple

This daily cleanser contains thyme, zinc and witch hazel - All great ingredients to give your skin the deep cleanse it deserves. I was slightly worried that it would leave my skin feeling rather dry and tight after using it, but it didn't at all. My skin felt fresh and clean after every use, but it didn't really do much for my pores or spots. It says on their website that you will see results from day one, which isn't the case.

Would I buy it again? Not really. Although it is only £5, it wasn't necessarily anything special. There's a lot of cleansers out there that do more, for about the same price. I will use this up, probably when I'm having a bit of a pamper or something, but once it's gone I won't be running to the shops to get more.

Simple Water Boost Skin Quench Sleeping Cream

Water Boost Skin Quench sleeping night cream

What better product to use after a deep cleanse than their Water Boost Skin Quench sleeping cream? It sounds amazing, right? Like it'll soak up into your skin and bring it back to life after a long day. Well, that's what I thought it would do anyway. I have started using creams that are a bit more intense overnight, and I've actually found them to be really beneficial to my skin, hence why I picked up this one.

"This silky, lightweight moisturiser transforms dull, tired skin, replenishing dehydrated skin while you sleep. Perfect for even the most sensitive skin." - Simple

Now, don't get me wrong, I did love this night cream... It just wasn't as intense as I'd hoped. I liked it so much that I've actually finished it, which rarely happens. I apply a generous amount on my neck and face every night after washing my face and applying my toner, which leaves my skin slightly sticky for a moment while it soaks in. You do only really need a small amount of this skin-quenching moisturiser for it to cover your face well, which is how I started out. However, I didn't find that it really gave my skin that intense moisturise that I was hoping for, so I started applying a thicker layer on hoping that would help. It didn't, it just meant that when I woke up in the morning, I had rather greasy skin from the leftover cream.

The problem I have with my skin is that, although it's oily, it's also rather dry underneath. So using a good moisturiser is essential for me, otherwise, my skin just produces more oil, which clogs my pores which then causes my skin to break out. To be honest, although it is a lovely lightweight night cream, it's just not enough for me personally. I'd rather buy Nivea Soft moisturiser for half the price, which is a little bit heavier but moisturises a lot more and lasts longer.

So what do I think to about Simple skincare now? I mean, it's alright... but not really a brand that I would find myself turning to often. I think Garnier is a pretty good and budget-friendly brand, that has some more impressive products for about the same price - So I'd probably check their stuff out before even thinking of Simple. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't ever buy their products again, if they launched something that caught my eye, I would definitely give it a go.

  1. I've always found Simple Skincare to be a little hit or miss! The only time I ever really pick it up now is if I've seen something new they've launched and it's cheap! I might pick up the protecting moisturiser you talked about first, because I'm always on the lookout for ones that are cheaper because I go through them so quickly! Have you tried any of their face masks? They're the only thing that I will actively seek out in a shop because they're cheap and I find them to be pretty good! x
