Styling The Over-Sized Cardigan

styling an over-sized cardigan

I've always been one to reach for more over-sized clothes. When I was a teen, I used to buy men's t-shirts and cut them up, not only because I could never find a t-shirt I liked in the women's section, but also because I loved wearing over-sized tees. I've always been more comfortable in them. In recent years, I have branched out a bit and started buying clothes that are actually my size. However, when I spotted this over-sized cardigan on Very, I couldn't help but order it.

I have bought oversized cardigans in the past, that drowned me when I put them on. I bought an over-sized jumper from H&M once and now it's my "around-the-house" jumper because it's so big on me. So I wasn't sure if, when this one arrived, I'd actually be able to pull it off or not.

I ordered it in black and in grey because I feel like my wardrobe needs more cardigans and jumpers in it, ones that I can throw on over the top and kind of finish my outfit. This cardigan seemed perfect for those awkward weather days, you know the ones? I find we get a lot of them around this time of year when it's warm but cold so you don't know if you should layer up or not. I tend to layer up just in case and the end up regretting it later on in the day when I feel like I'm in an oven. I guess putting thermals on under your trousers isn't a smart idea at this time of year unless it's snowing that is.
This over-sized cardigan is currently my favourite item in my wardrobe. As soon as it arrived, I knew we were going to be best friends. It's the softest cardigan I've ever owned, it's like a cosy blanket. Admittedly it's a bit bigger than I expected it to be, the arms are very wide on it and at first, I thought that I wasn't going to be able to pull it off without looking like a child that's cold so their parent lent them their coat.

However, no matter what I paired it with, if I stuck a pair of heels with it, it balanced it out and it looked alright. Chilled but chic, the perfect combo if you ask me. As you can see, I also paired it with a skirt and knee-high boots, which gave me the "I'm trying but not too hard" kinda look.

I've also started wearing them to work when I wear jeans on a Friday. I stick it with a basic top and some heeled boots, perfect. At first, I felt a bit self-conscious wearing it to work as I usually wear more fitted items. However, wearing this made leaving the warmth of my bed a little bit easier in the morning.

How do you feel about over-sized clothing? Is it easy to pull off? I think I might be adding a few more over-sized items to my wardrobe soon, they'll come in handy in Spring and Summer - Especially if it gets as hot as it did last year. The last thing you want in that heat is perfectly fitted clothing.
