My Top Picks For Acne Prone/Blemished Skin

I have tried a fair amount of products of the years to help reduce the appearance of blemishes and any lovely spots that may pop up. Some good and some just really bad, unfortunately. So I thought I would put together a list of a few of the products that I still use now and would highly recommend.

1. Garnier PureActive Sensitive Anti-Blemish Clarifying Tonic.

Garnier never really lets me down if I'm honest, it does sometimes but rarely. After trying their PureActive Sensitive range, they'd won me over. Especially with this Anti-Blemish clarifying tonic, that has lasted me ages. It's more like a gel, unlike any other toner I've tried. It tightens your pores and soothes your skin thanks to the salicylic acid and witch hazel it contains.

2. Garnier PureActive Sensitive Anti-Blemish Soothing Moisturiser.

Another product from Garnier's PureActive Sensitive range, a light moisturiser for blemished skin. Like I said before, I was impressed with the entire range but these are the two I still use occasionally now. They're more effective when used constantly, however, I tend to use them more when my skin is looking a bit more blemished.

This moisturiser contains zinc and witch hazel extract, helping reduce blemishes and spots while also gently moisturising your skin and leaving it looking mattified for up to 24h.

3. Acnecide 5% gel.

I was prescribed this one by my doctor, but you can buy it over the counter I believe. It's a pretty harsh product on your skin, so I only tend to use it when I'm breaking out as it really dries my skin out. When I first got it, I used it every day and it reached a point where my skin was so dry and sore it felt horrible.

This cream contains benzoyl peroxide, which will bleach any fabrics it may come into contact with. So I would recommend putting it on a few hours before going to bed and only in the affected areas, otherwise, you'll end up with bleached pillows and dry skin in areas that weren't even affected. It is really good a clearing up breakouts, but as I said before, it's a very harsh product so make sure you read the instructions on it first.

4. Miss Spa Clear Blemish Patches.

I bought these a while ago in one of Revolution's sales, I was intrigued and wanted to give them a go. You get two strips of twelve different sized patches in one pack. I find these useful when you have the odd spot that you want to get rid of, you just clean your skin and skin them on overnight.

It contains salicylic acid, which dries out the spot overnight. It says that it can be used on blemishes and blackheads too but I can't say I've tried it on them, I use it on spots that have decided to make a rather fast and unwanted appearance.

5. Puriskin Resurfacing Formula.

I got this one in a Birchbox and although I don't really use it that much anymore, when I got it I loved it. This one isn't really one to get rid of spots, it's more the kind of cream you would use once your skin has cleared up a bit but left behind the odd mark and blemish.

It soothes your skin, helps reduce irritation and leaves it feeling soft and silky. It's aimed at acne scars, blemishes, age spots, burns, dermatitis, razor bumps, etc. So it's kind of like a healing and soothing cream, not one I would recommend if you're trying to get rid of spots.

If you're a regular reader here, you'll know that I am constantly trying out new products that may help reduce any blemishes and acne - So I'll probably be doing another list like this sometime in the future. If you have any products that you've been eying up but want to know if they're any good, let me know in the comments and I'll check them out.
